同志社大学の隣に位置するこのお寺は、禅宗で有名です。周囲へのアクセスがあまり良くないためか、訪れる人はまばらですが、実は非常におすすめの穴場スポットなのです。
このお寺の本堂は、高さ約11メートルあり、その天井には天龍寺に匹敵する圧巻の八方睨みの龍が描かれています。さらに、この本堂はドーム状につくられており、中央で手を両手で叩くと美しい反響音が鳴り響きます。この音のことを「鳴龍（なきりゅう）」と呼び、お坊さんがその音の特徴などを説明してくれます。
また、お寺には竜安寺を連想させるような侘びを感じさせる石庭もあり、訪れる人が少なく、ゆったりと鑑賞できる貴重な穴場スポットとなっています。お寺の雰囲気や龍のイメージ、石庭の風情など、日本の伝統文化を感じることができるでしょう。

Located next to Doshisha University, this temple is famous for Zen Buddhism. Due to its somewhat limited accessibility, the number of visitors is sparse, making it a hidden gem that comes highly recommended.
The main hall of this temple stands at a height of about 11 meters, with a magnificent dragon painting on the ceiling that rivals those at Tenryu-ji Temple. Furthermore, the main hall is constructed in a dome shape, so when you clap your hands together at the center, a beautiful resonating sound echoes throughout the hall. This sound is known as “Nakiryu,” and the priests will explain the characteristics of this sound to visitors.
In addition, the temple features a serene stone garden reminiscent of Ryoan-ji Temple, allowing visitors to appreciate its tranquility in a peaceful setting with relatively few people around. This spot offers a rare opportunity to experience traditional Japanese culture through the temple’s atmosphere, the imagery of the dragon, and the aesthetic of the stone garden.
